    Gimkit Assignments Guide

    FloydBy FloydFebruary 14, 2026Updated:February 25, 2026No Comments4 Mins Read

Gimkit assignments let educators assign game-based activities that students complete independently, outside of live classroom sessions. Teachers create them through the Gimkit dashboard, share a link, and students finish the work on their own schedule. Only Gimkit Pro subscribers can create and distribute assignments.

    How Do Gimkit Assignments Work?

Unlike live Gimkit games where all players join at once, assignments are asynchronous. A teacher selects a kit (question set), picks a compatible game mode, sets goals, and shares the assignment link. Students open the link and play until they meet the goal — no coordination needed.

Progress saves automatically every minute. If a student closes the browser and returns later, they pick up where they left off. Once a student finishes, they see an “Assignment Complete” screen with their results.

Available Game Modes for Gimkit Assignments

Only solo-friendly 2D game modes work with assignments. Team-based and group modes are excluded. As of the latest update, four modes are supported.

Gimkit Assignment Game Modes — Supported vs. Excluded
    Supported ModesExcluded Modes
    FishtopiaAll team-based modes
    Cash TycoonGroup-required modes
    Farmchain—
    Don’t Look Down—

Cash Tycoon is exclusive to assignments and cannot be played in live sessions. Each mode has a distinct objective — earning a cash target, answering a set number of questions, or reaching a specific summit in Don’t Look Down.

How to Create a Gimkit Assignment

    1. Open your Gimkit dashboard and click “Assign HW” next to the kit you want to use. You can also start from the Assignments section.
    2. Select a compatible solo 2D mode from the mode picker.
    3. Configure your options: set a due date, assign to a Gimkit class, and define cash or question goals.
    4. Click “Create Assignment” and copy the generated link to share with students.

If 2D modes fail to load, students may need to enable WebGL in their browser settings.

    Sharing and Renaming Gimkit Assignments

Each assignment produces a single link, regardless of how many classes you attach to it. Students in connected classes will see the assignment on their dashboard automatically.

The default title combines the kit name and game mode. Click the title inside the assignment view to rename it.

    How Students Complete Gimkit Assignments

Students have two completion paths. The assignment ends as soon as either goal is reached first.

    Assignment Completion Methods

Gimkit’s built-in Smart Repetition system tracks each student’s accuracy and surfaces missed questions more frequently. Students also earn XP from completed assignments.

Tracking Gimkit Assignment Results and Reports

From your dashboard, click Assignments to see all active and completed tasks. Overdue items display an orange indicator. Click any assignment, then open the Results tab to view student performance filtered by class, status (Completed, Working On It, Has Not Started), or name.

For a detailed breakdown, click Open Report. You can also access reports from the original kit page under Reports. Only the first three attempts per student are recorded in results, and only the first attempt appears in reports.

Tips for Using Gimkit Assignments Effectively

Pairing assignments with Gimkit classes gives the best tracking and organization. Without classes, you can’t view multiple attempts by the same student side-by-side or filter by class.

For low-stakes practice without deadlines or grading, use the Practice button inside any kit instead. Share that link and students answer questions freely with no tracking or scores.

Watch for unusual activity in reports. Some users try to disrupt sessions using bot flooders, which can interfere with genuine participation.

    FAQs

Do students need a Gimkit account to complete assignments?

No. Students without accounts can access assignments through the shared link and enter their name to start playing. Accounts are only needed if you use class-based tracking.

Can I change assignment settings after creating one?

No. Cash goals, question goals, and game mode cannot be modified after creation. You can only rename the assignment. To change settings, create a new assignment.

What happens if a student closes the assignment mid-game?

Gimkit saves assignment progress every minute. When the student reopens the link, they resume from their last saved point automatically.

Is Cash Tycoon available outside of Gimkit assignments?

No. Cash Tycoon is exclusive to assignments and cannot be played in live game sessions or practice mode.

How many times can a student replay a Gimkit assignment?

Students can replay assignments as many times as they want. Gimkit records the first three attempts in results and only the first attempt in reports.
