    Gimkit Pro vs Gimkit Basic

    FloydBy FloydMarch 19, 2026Updated:March 19, 2026No Comments5 Mins Read

Gimkit Pro is the paid upgrade for Gimkit educator accounts. It unlocks all game modes, adds assignment tools, and removes the rotation restrictions that come with the free plan. This covers everything you need to decide whether it’s worth it for your classroom.

Gimkit Pro vs Gimkit Basic: What’s the Difference?

Every educator account starts on Gimkit Basic at no cost. Basic includes unlimited student participation, Gimkit classes for rostering, and access to performance reports. There’s no time limit on the free plan—it’s available as long as you need it.

The main limitation with Basic is game mode access. Only three modes are available at any time, and they rotate on a set schedule. Non-featured Pro Exclusive modes are capped at five players on Basic accounts.

Gimkit Pro removes all those restrictions. Every game mode is available with no player cap, and Pro Exclusive modes are no longer subject to rotation. You also gain access to assignments and media uploads, which Basic doesn’t include.

Gimkit Pro Pricing: Monthly vs Annual Plan

Gimkit Pro has two billing options. The monthly plan charges $14.99 each month. The annual plan is $59.88 billed once per year, which works out to $4.99 per month.

The annual plan becomes cheaper than monthly after just four months of use. Four months on the monthly plan costs $59.96—eight cents more than a full year on the annual plan. For teachers using Gimkit through a standard school year, the annual option saves roughly $120.

New educator accounts receive a 14-day free trial of Gimkit Pro automatically. After the trial ends, the account moves to Basic unless a Pro plan is purchased.

Pro Exclusive Game Modes in Gimkit Pro

Pro Exclusives are game modes that require a paid subscription for full classroom use. On Basic, these modes run with a five-player cap. With Gimkit Pro, there’s no limit—the full class participates.

The 2D game modes are among the more distinctive Pro Exclusives. These place students in map-based worlds where they answer questions to move, earn resources, or survive. Modes like One Way Out, Don’t Look Down, and Snowy Survival run on this format. Blastball and Snowbrawl are also in this category.

Featured modes change every few weeks, so even modes available free today may require Pro later in the school year.

Gimkit Assignments and Media Features in Pro

Gimkit assignments let teachers send kits to students as individual homework tasks. Students complete them on their own schedule, outside of class sessions. This is available only on the Pro plan and is one of the more practical reasons teachers upgrade.

Pro also supports uploading images and adding audio directly to questions. This matters for subjects where context depends on visuals or sound—foreign language listening comprehension, science diagrams, or geography identification. Gimkit’s smart repetition system surfaces questions students answered incorrectly more frequently, which works well alongside media-enriched content.

School and Department Plans: Gimkit Groups

For schools buying subscriptions for multiple teachers, Gimkit offers group licensing through Gimkit Groups. Department licenses cover up to 20 teacher accounts at $650 per year. School licenses cover all teachers at a given school for $1,000 per year.

Estimated Cost Per Teacher Per Year by Plan

Group plans accept purchase orders, which individual Pro subscriptions don’t. A central dashboard handles all account management automatically—no manual renewals or license assignments needed.

Is Gimkit Pro Worth It for Teachers?

For teachers who use Gimkit regularly through the school year, the annual plan at $59.88 is the most cost-efficient option. The per-month cost drops to around $5, which is comparable to many other classroom tools.

Teachers who use Gimkit occasionally may find Basic workable—the rotating free modes are functional for basic review sessions. But anyone who relies on specific game modes, needs to assign homework through Gimkit, or wants to add images and audio to questions will need Pro.

Switching between plans doesn’t delete anything. All kits, assignments, class rosters, and season progress remain intact when upgrading or downgrading.
