Gimkit cosmetics are visual items players earn through gameplay — character skins called Gims, particle trail effects, and lobby stickers. None of them affect scores or speed. Gimkit launched the system on April 12, 2022, giving students a progression incentive tied to how much they play, not how well.
What Are Gimkit Cosmetics?
Gimkit cosmetics are appearance-only rewards built into the platform’s XP progression system. Players earn the in-game currency GimBucks by levelling up, then spend it at the Item Shop. All three cosmetic types — Gims, trails, and stickers — are available to both students and teachers under the same rules.
No cosmetic provides any competitive advantage. They exist purely to personalize how a player looks and interacts within Gimkit’s 2D game modes.
Types of Gimkit Cosmetics: Gims, Trails, and Stickers
Gims
Gims are character skins worn during 2D sessions, replacing the default avatar. The first one released was Day One on April 12, 2022. Some Gims have custom animations, translucent designs, or alternate body shapes. They are the primary cosmetic category and the most collected.
Trails
Trails are particle effects that follow a Gim as it moves through 2D gameplay. They serve no functional purpose and are purchased the same way as Gims — through the Item Shop or via Packs.
Stickers
Stickers work only in the pre-game lobby. Players place them on-screen while waiting for a session to start. Up to 10 stickers can appear simultaneously. Adding an 11th removes the oldest one automatically.
How to Earn GimBucks for Gimkit Cosmetics
GimBucks are the only currency for Gimkit cosmetics. Players earn them by accumulating XP in eligible 2D modes — games like Blastball, One Way Out, and Snowy Survival all qualify. Every 1,000 XP moves a player up one level, and each level-up grants 100 GimBucks.
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| 1,000 XP earned | 1 level gained |
| 1 level gained | 100 GimBucks |
| Standard weekly XP cap | 15,000 XP (15 level-ups max) |
| Season Ticket weekly XP cap | 20,000 XP (20 level-ups max) |
| Weekly reset | Every Wednesday at 2 PM EST |
Unspent GimBucks carry over between weeks and never expire. Players can save across multiple weeks for higher-rarity items.

Gimkit Cosmetics Rarity Tiers and Pricing
Every cosmetic belongs to one of five active rarity tiers. Two tiers — Common and Mysterious — currently have no cosmetics assigned. Rarity determines both the Item Shop price and the sell-back value received when a Pack drops a duplicate.
Duplicate Sell-Back Value by Rarity (GimBucks) — Sqrt Scale
| Rarity | Duplicate Sell Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 5 GimBucks | Lowest tier with active cosmetics |
| Rare | 10 GimBucks | — |
| Epic | 25 GimBucks | — |
| Legendary | 100 GimBucks | Color changed from yellow to orange in March 2025 |
| Mythic | 300 GimBucks | Only via Packs or Season Ticket; not in Item Shop directly |
As of early 2026, 10 Mythic Gims exist: Atlantis, Build-A-Bug, Sprite, The “Golden” Retriever, Custom Kitten, U.F.O, Everything, Hauntis, Reinkle The Gold-Nosed, and The Skull Armadana.
Where to Get Gimkit Cosmetics
Item Shop
The Item Shop refreshes every Wednesday at 2 PM EST with a new rotation. Players spend GimBucks directly on listed items. Owned items are marked, and items a player cannot afford show a greyed-out button. A handful of cosmetics — Blueprint and items from six permanent Packs — remain available year-round regardless of rotation.
Packs
Packs cost 30 GimBucks each and contain randomized cosmetics across rarities. Six permanent Packs are always available: Retro, Dog, Cat, Bug, Atlas, and Elemental. Seasonal Packs appear temporarily. The Pack system launched on March 12, 2025, replacing the previous collection-based shop structure.
Season Ticket Cosmetics
The Season Ticket costs $5 USD and unlocks exclusive cosmetics not sold anywhere else. It also raises the weekly XP cap to 20,000, giving Season Ticket holders up to 2,000 GimBucks per week versus 1,500 on a standard account.
What Happens to Gimkit Cosmetics During Summer?
XP earning and Item Shop access pause from mid-June until the new school year. Players cannot unlock new Gimkit cosmetics during this window. Any items already in their Locker remain fully usable in 2D modes throughout the break.
Can Teachers Disable Gimkit Cosmetics?
Yes. From a Gimkit account, teachers go to Settings > Game Settings and toggle Disable Cosmetics. This removes Gims, trails, and stickers from live sessions and hides the Rewards button before and after games. XP still accumulates for students even when cosmetics are disabled, so progression continues in the background. Teachers managing Gimkit classes can adjust this setting per their classroom preferences.
